Where I spent part of my childhood, starfruit was plentiful and I loved eating it out of hand like an apple. So it was exciting to find out that it’s in season during the winter here in the US, by way of Florida.

Here are some tips on starfruit:

– Choose firm and bright yellow flesh- it may have some light green to it too. But the more yellow, the less tart and more sweet it will be.

– Trim the 5 brown ridges before slicing width wise.

– Remove seeds if desired but they are perfectly fine to eat.

 

It’s a great source of vitamin C, antioxidants and fiber.

And how pretty would they be as a cocktail garnish?

    Eli hates food, I swear. Veggie? Whats that? He wont eat a veggie unsles its pureed stuff form his sisters baby food jar, gah!In a day he usually eats nuggets, more nuggets, apples, applesause, raisins and milk. yeah. I hope he grows out of being picky.
